Discovery Trips

Discovery Trips are an opportunity for students to explore ideas, places, and experiences outside of Over-the-Rhine. This video shows highlights from Discovery Trips from 2021 and 2022.

Summer Camp

August 25, 2022

We had an incredible 6 weeks of Summer Camp! We are grateful to all the students, staff, and volunteers who helped make our Summer Camp a success. June 20th- July 29th was full of fun activities, trips around town, swimming, games, and learning about different cultures. Each day, we began by sharing a meal together and worshiping Jesus through song and dance, and ended each day with a Bible lesson, to deepen our understanding about God’s word. We had 162 Pre K-12th graders registered for our Summer Camp program. God is good!

End-of-Year Program

June 10, 2022

The 2021-2022 school year is complete! Congratulations to all of our students for a job well done!

Each program, PreK-12th, got an opportunity to acknowledge students for all their accomplishments and goals met this academic year.

Thank you to the parents, staff, and volunteers for helping make the End-of-Year Program a success! We truly enjoyed the fellowship and look forward to preparing for Summer Camp 2022!

Family Reading Night

May 9, 2022

Thank you to all the families that attended April's Family Reading Night. We enjoyed a tasty spaghetti dinner while reading the e-book Italian Food by Sara Gilbert. It was a great time to fellowship with families and staff.

Trust in God

April 20, 2022

As I was driving in to serve with our Wesley Chapel Mission Center Team, I received a call from a former Wesley Chapel Mission Center youth who is now a student enrolled at Xavier University. She is a young lady that is still actively involved in our program as a volunteer and guest speaker. Upon answering my phone, I was greeted with excitement, “Mr. Kevin, I took my driving test today, and I got my license!” Overwhelmed by the call and the news, I had her pause as I was able to pull off the exit and into a nearby parking lot. She then continued to speak about the process, and said something that stuck with me; she advised, “It was not as hard as I thought!”

Her journey as a child who grew up in poverty, raised in a single-family household where she was the most responsible person in the household, and now a college student who is still struggling but refusing to give up is a testimony that she has shared with me. As I spoke with her, she stated, “It’s not as hard as you think when you trust in God!”

I think we all can take a lesson from this young person. Daily, the Wesley Chapel Mission Center exists to change the lives of the children we serve as a “System of Care.” With your help, we can continue to impact youth who are already behind; catch up! With God, it’s not as hard as you think!

Discovery Trip

March 10, 2022

Our February Discovery Trip was to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in honor of Black History Month. It was an excellent experience for the children to learn about stories of freedom heroes. It was indeed a great time of learning.

How to Read the Bible

February 4, 2022

This past week the Middler Program has started to focus on reading the Bible. We want to introduce kids to Jesus and see them nurture a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Students are gaining confidence in reading. The Bible can be a big book in the eyes of a child. But it is important that children know how and where to start reading. It is encouraging to see our students ask questions and be inspired to take the time to read God's Word.

Thank you to the Middler Coordinator, Jarice Ewell, and all the teachers for introducing our students to something that can impact their lives now and in the future.

Holiday Recap

January 16, 2022

This holiday season was indeed a great time at WCMC. December 13th-16th, our annual Christmas Store was open to all students to shop for gifts for their families and friends. Special thank you to Diane Stockburger for creating and leading the Christmas Store. She completely transformed the Primary building. Everyone came into the store with eyes wide with excitement.

Thank you to all the volunteers that came to shop and help wrap gifts. It was great to have CPD District One, board members, and neighborhood partners volunteer.

The Year in Review

December 9, 2021

Dear Friends,

As the 2021 year comes to an end and the 2022 year begins, your Wesley Chapel Mission Center Family wants to express sincere humility and gratitude for all you have done for our children, staff, and the overall organization. I want to highlight just a few exceptional things that you have allowed us to do:

  • You helped support over (166) registered youth in grades PreK-12th in the most underserved areas of Cincinnati, the Over the Rhine neighborhood.

  • Your support and gifts to the Kingdom allowed free services rendered to our three grade-appropriate programs: Primary (PreK-2nd), Middlers (3rd-6thth), and High School (7th-12th). All programs are free for registered children.

  • We introduced our youth to Christ by engaging in daily Bible lessons and precepts.

Spiritual Seed

November 13, 2021

Genesis 8:22 states:

While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

God has provided for you and me, means to survive regardless of the season. My Pastor stated during a recent Sunday Sermon that “Seed” is mentioned in the Bible (257) times. As I listened to the sermon, I thought about how mighty the seed of Abraham truly was. I also thought about how our own spiritual seed is designed to sow in good ground for the Kingdom of Jesus Christ! So as we sow, let us reap by inviting others to our house of worship and intentionally planting Kingdom seeds.

Genesis 9:9 says: “And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you.”

Welcome Back!

September 26, 2021

Our kiddos are back in action! WCMC doors are open with welcoming arms to receive our students. Thursday, August 19th, was the first day for the 2021-2022 academic school year. Our staff and students are excited about all the opportunities this year has to offer. Thank you to Cincinnati Police Department, District One, for walking with students from Rothenberg Preparatory Academy to Wesley Chapel Mission Center. It helped make the student's first-day special!

Cincinnati Public Schools has resumed five-day-a-week, in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year. WCMC continues to support students with homework help, academic enrichment, provide healthy snacks, and share the goodness of Jesus Christ. We are excited to welcome new and returning volunteers. If you would like to help, our students launch a fantastic school year; join us today!

To keep our WCMC family safe, staff and students wear masks, check temperatures, and have several accessible sanitation areas. Would you please support our students in prayer as they embark on all that this year has to offer.

Branching Out: Connecting Through Christ

August 2, 2021

WCMC had a fantastic Summer Camp this year! June 21st through July 30th was full of fun activities, academic enrichment, and learning more about God's word.

With over 150 children registered, our campers had a blast "Branching Out Through Christ" this summer. Our fantastic staff and volunteers welcomed PreK-12th Graders. Praise and worship were flowing throughout the camp. Campers took advantage of new adventures and experiences, from playing in Grant Park, gardening in OTR to swimming at Ziegler Pool. There was no dull moment. We thank God for all the memories made.

Thank you to all of the excellent staff, volunteers, and donors who helped make Summer Camp 2021 a success. With your help, WCMC provided lunch each day, academic engagement designed to help children retain what they learned from the school year, and spiritual enrichment to encourage youth to be a light in Over-the-Rhine.

Thank You For Being Exceptional!

July 6, 2021

Who would not want to be described as unusually good or outstanding? Well, that’s exactly what the staff and I witness daily here at the Wesley Chapel Mission Center. The exceptional acts of God’s Grace, resources, and gifts are on display daily. The support of the individuals and ministries that pour into the mission of teaching Jesus Christ Precepts, uplifting, educating, and introducing the loss to the excellence of Jesus Christ is a work that we are committed to. I cannot say enough about the commitment of the staff, leadership of the board, and the path established by the former executive director (Becky Costello). Lives are being changed, and hearts are being mended. The building of relationships and offering a hand up versus a hand out is a pursuit that we relish. The Bible notes in Matthew 9:37 that “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few” still holds true today. We ask for your prayers and encouragement as we witness to the youth and families that only want better for themselves and their children! Please feel free to contact me at (513) 426-3067 to discuss how you can help.

May the Peace of God be with you daily!

Goodbye Sarah Lewton

June 2, 2021

What brought you to WCMC?

I came to WCMC as a Volunteer Coordinator connecting volunteers to the mission of WCMC. As I grew in sharing the vision of WCMC, I became the Grant Coordinator and eventually the first Director of Communications and Development.

How long have you been at WCMC? I've been with WCMC since February of 2017, so it's been over 4 years now.

What's next?

I will be moving just up the hill to the University of Cincinnati and working as the Assistant Director of Development for CECH.

What will you miss most about WCMC?

I'll miss being a part of the community. Wesley Chapel has a beautiful network of individuals whom God has brought together in a unique way. From parents and students to volunteers, supporters, and staff the Center connects people from all walks of life. You truly never know who is going to walk through the door next, but you can trust that God has brought them there for a purpose.

"We serve a good, good Father whose plans are so much greater than our own. I praise Him for the time I have been able to spend at WCMC. I praise Him for the way he has stretched and grown me through my time here, and I look forward to seeing how God continues to use me in the future. May the Lord continue to bless and watch over our WCMC Family."

- Sarah Lewton

Sarah, on behalf of the WCMC family, we wish you the best and you truly will be missed!

Find Your Purpose

May 26, 2021

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you,” 1 Peter 2:9. 9

There are several definitions of “Purpose” but I feel that this defines it best…

“Purpose; The reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.”

At Wesley Chapel Mission Center, we strive daily to see the results that purpose creates. Whether it is in decision-making one-on-one, or in a group activity, the youth that daily visit our center should not leave our doors without knowing that God has a plan for their lives and their existence. We teach the youth that there is a reason why we do things. We want them to understand that Jesus can transform anything and everything for His purpose. We may not understand it or even see it, but to me, that’s the beauty in it because by trusting Him, His purpose completes itself.

The Disciple Project

March 30, 2021

Wesley Chapel Mission Center, located in the “Over the Rhine” neighborhood, will be performing a monthly “Disciple Project” led by the High School Coordinator, Daniel Calves. The youth who are engaged in this program will be going to area essential businesses, nursing homes, places of worship, and schools to share a message of thanks, gratitude, and encouragement. It is the mission of Wesley Chapel Mission Center, which serves underserved families that live within the OTR area, to model service to others. Our staff daily teaches and reiterates to the youth who arrive at our center, that love and compassion for others can change their lives and the lives of those they serve!

Yours in Christ,

Kevin Corey,

A Life Can be Changed by New Information!

February 24, 2021

I can recall sitting in a classroom that represented leaders from across the nation. We were attending a Chief Executive Training session and while there were good speakers throughout the day, there was a particular speaker that gained my attention within five minutes. He first introduced himself and then he said, “We must listen to what others have to say; information is power!”

Most people want better, they want to change, they wish that somehow, someway, an event could be altered by a miracle. If you were raised within a deprived neighborhood and discovered through exposure that all neighborhoods were not like yours, it could result in an informational transfer where you wondered why your grass looked different than their grass; why their walkways did not contain trash or an odor that no human being should experience. I knew that I did not want to raise my children in such a blighted area of town. Neither did I want the most important information that I could introduce them to for living their best life to remain unfound. I started reading and seeking information that could change the rest of my days; it was found in the Holy Bible.

If you find yourself searching; seeking; reaching for an answer, look no further than the word of God. (Our Heavenly)Father knows best!

Yours in Christ,

Kevin Corey

How Do We See One Another?

January 25, 2021

“The way you see people is the way you treat them and the way you treat them is the way they become”. -Johan Wolfgang von Goethe

I was once told that if you want to help people, you must meet them where they are, not where you are at this date and time in your own lives. While I am not a psychologist and have not pursued that field of study, I have read and examined what the greatest Fixer (Jesus Christ) of all times has taught by His example of compassion, love, and faith. He empowered believers to serve others before self.

My favorite book reads in Matthew 25:35-41; “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Be blessed!

Yours in Christ,

See the Mountain…Climb the Mountain

January 17, 2021

During my lifetime, I have overcome several of life’s (struggles) mountains, and believe me; climbing is not one of my favorite hobbies. Whether the event was poverty, the death of a loved one, an unforeseen barrier, or an experience that was out of my control to impact or change… it happened. The children, who live within the community where Wesley Chapel Mission Center is located, will surely have mountain experiences. We teach them that no matter what they may be going through just trust in God. You may be going through a similar situation and if you are finding your mountain difficult to climb, we want to encourage you to keep climbing. Take the first step with Faith! Take another, knowing that you are not walking alone; take another, and another and another. You can overcome and conquer the mountain! God may not move your mountain but he will give you the strength to climb!

Yours in Christ,

Kevin Corey

BBB Accreditation

December 1, 2020

Wesley Chapel Mission Center is pleased to announce that we have received Better Business Bureau accreditation.

Special thanks to Cicely Tingle and Gail Stewart, board members who led much of the work on our policies and procedures. Over the past few years, the Governance, Finance and Development committees and staff members have implemented strong operational and information procedures to follow best practices and transparently share appropriate information with our constituents. Let's pray that this work reflects the trustworthiness of our mission and strengthens our relationships in the community.

Meet our new Executive Director!

November 2, 2020

The Wesley Chapel Mission Center Board is pleased to announce that Kevin R. Corey will join our organization in November to begin onboarding as our next Executive Director.  As previously announced, Becky Costello will retire in January 2021.

Kevin comes to us from Talbert House where he held leadership roles in operations and case management.  He brings a breadth and depth of experiences in community relations, organization leadership, administration, and non-profits. Importantly, he is a man of deep faith and will be a strong spiritual leader and role model in the neighborhood.  The mission of Wesley Chapel Mission Center is clearly aligned with Kevin’s drive to uplift disadvantaged youth.

Kevin spent most of his career with the Fort Wayne, Indiana, Police Department, where he rose to Captain and was heavily involved in community relations. Kevin is the founder and served as the First Statewide President for the Indiana School Resource Officers Association. He also served as a board member of Northeast Indiana Youth for Christ.  Kevin retired from the Fort Wayne Police Department in 2012 and moved to Cincinnati to become Chief of Police for the Village of Lincoln Heights.  He later taught a Victimology class at the University of Cincinnati and joined Talbert House in 2015.

Kevin lives in Fairfield with his wife Nicole.  They have five adult children and ten grandchildren.  Kevin and Nicole are members of the Word of Deliverance Church which is located in Forest Park. Kevin served as the Deacon Chairman of the New Covenant Worship Center in Fort Wayne for 8 years prior to moving to the Cincinnati region. Kevin grew up in a neighborhood similar to Over-the-Rhine and understands the struggles of our children and families.  He is passionate and excited to join an organization where he can openly share the love of God.

Please join us in welcoming Kevin to the Wesley Chapel Mission Center family.  We look forward to introducing Kevin to you in the coming months and to celebrating Becky’s dedicated service in January.

Blessings,

Jannelle Moore

Board President

Saying Goodbye Won’t Be Easy!

July 2, 2020

Becky Costello, Executive Director of Wesley Chapel Mission Center, has announced her intention to retire in January 2021. Becky boldly answered God’s calling to join WCMC in 2004 and embraced the mission of love and hope. She led tremendous growth and outreach during her tenure, transforming a modest after-school program serving a handful of children to a year-round PreK-12 program serving over 200 children. Becky has always been faithful to God’s guiding hand, and she believes God is now instructing her to pass the mantle to a new Executive Director.

You may send best wishes to Becky at WCMC, P.O. Box 141031, Cincinnati, OH 45250. A retirement celebration will be planned near her retirement date.

Summer Camp Starting Soon!

June 1, 2020

Summer Camp is on and we couldn't be more excited! Of course, there will be some changes. And camp will look a little different, but the important part is that we are able to host 6 weeks of in person day camp for PreK-12th grade students. Our staff is thrilled to be back on site and see the children's faces!

WCMC is also praising God for his provision of adequate spaces to host our camp. Two of our rooms will be divided so that we can welcome 8 groups of students, all with their own restrooms and entrances. Each of the groups is allowed up to 9 students. Although there will be health precautions in place, WCMC will provide as many of our standard summer camp activities as possible. We plan to offer outdoor games, Bible lessons, time in the garden, songs, crafts and a strong focus on academic work. We want to make sure our students are ready when they head back to school in the fall.

Here’s What We’ve Been Up To…

May 7, 2020

The picture to the left is an excellent portrayal of what life with WCMC looks like these days. Our Lead Team meets daily over Zoom and the full staff gets together twice a week through Zoom. Each program team also has meetings throughout the week. Although it's a lot of fun to see each other's faces, we look forward to the day we can connect in person.

We've also been working hard to stay in touch with students and families. All our families were mailed a newsletter; phone calls are made to each of our students at least once a week; cards and notes are being sent to students; and our High School team engages students in Bible studies and game nights through Zoom.

You may have also noticed an increase in videos being added to our Facebook page. Staff members create content to connect with their students and to share a little about what life in their homes looks like during this time. We invite you to stay in touch with us through Facebook and our YouTube channel. You're sure to enjoy Tasty Tuesdays with Ms. Janine, some truth or dare with Mr. Drew, and coloring with Mr. Josh!

Still Shining the Light!

April 27, 2020

In the midst of this unprecedented storm, Wesley Chapel Mission Center continues to be a guiding light and trusted, loving safe haven for children and families in Over-the-Rhine. Our staff members, supported through prayers and a commitment of compensation by our board of directors, shine the Light and share the Love of Jesus daily to support the bodies, minds and souls of our children and their families.

Through phone calls, text messages, emails, note cards, and even videos, we are staying connected. Yes, we have a YouTube channel, WesleyChapelMissionCenter, where our staff members post videos they create to engage our students.

While we share information with our families about food distribution sites and how to stay healthy, we also receive their prayer requests and provide school supplies along with school homework packets. Our dedicated staff members are keeping the Wesley Chapel Family connected so that our time apart will not hinder our vision and mission.

Along with the many prayer concerns you lift up to God, please include Wesley Chapel Mission Center and our Over-the-Rhine children and families.

My hope is in the Lord!

Opening Doors to Opportunity: Junior Assistant Program

Jan 18, 2020

Open doors are pathways to many things.  Sometimes we go out the door to opportunities beyond our comfort zones.  Other times, we retreat back to safety in places we feel secure.  Our Junior Assistant (job training) Program has seen many open doors in 2019.

Last winter we had open positions, but had a hard time getting students to come through that door.  After hitting the streets for a summer hiring campaign, we had over 40 people knocking on the door for Junior Assistant (JA) positions.  We were able to offer 8 students (7 new) summer employment through our program!  Each of them took advantage of new opportunities to work with our Pre-school through 6th Grade students in our daily summer camp.  They served as role models for students in ways that adult staff are unable to do so (there is power in near-peer relationships!).  They were encouraged to work hard & to have fun with the students we serve.

Some of our Junior Assistants walked out the door after summer programming (due to graduation or to focus on schooling), while others continued in the program.  After more than two years on staff as a Junior Assistant, Alanee has walked through another open door for a different job opportunity and another has done the same.  This opened the door for two new students join our staff, while two to four positions now remain open for others.

It’s been a blessing to see Junior Assistants come & go through various doors.  These employees are learning new skills and are given regular feedback on how they are doing on Timeliness (of attendance & task completion), Engagement (with our students), Cheerfulness, & Helpfulness.  With 4-6 on the Junior Assistant staff, we’ve already logged more hours this school year than we did all of last school year.  The Junior Assistant Program is a great pathway to job opportunities!

STAR Club December Update

Dec 23, 2019

December has been an exciting month for STAR Club. For those who may not know, each Saturday after our academic, reading, and group game sections, we teach on new Bible memory verses and crafts that are centered on the holiday and or season of that month. For this month, we specifically focused on the birth of Jesus instead of Santa Claus, simply because Jesus is the Reason for the Season. On December 7th, after our academic portion, we kicked off this Christmas season with a short 5-minute age-appropriate video about the birth of Jesus. Our Bible verse of the week was Matthew 1:21: “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.” We ended the day with our craft, which was a Christmas snow-themed coloring sheet.

On Saturday, December 14th, we continued our tradition and learned 2 Corinthians 9:15: “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” for our Bible memory verse. For the craft, the children, with the help of their volunteers, created pine cone Christmas ornaments (see picture!). Each child were able to chose a pine cone, painted it, and put different decorations on it, which made each one very unique.

On Saturday, December 21st, we hosted our quarterly “Shooting STARs” reward event at the Cincinnati Play Library, where we gave Jesus an early birthday party! STAR Club’s “Shooting STARs” reward event is a newly instituted event that allows me to recognize and thank the students who dedicate every Saturday morning to advancing themselves academically and spiritually by attending STAR Club. Additionally, this provides more opportunity for volunteers and staff to continue building connections with students in a fun way. Keeping with the flow of things before we went on break to celebrate Jesus’ birthday, we had one last memory verse, which was Psalms 72:11: “Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him; All nations shall serve Him.”

We want to thank all those who have given their time and money, or volunteered with us this year. Myself and Mrs. Janine, and the kids at STAR Club are genuinely thankful for your dedication and time. We also want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

~Reggie Willis, STAR Club Coordinator

High School Open House

Nov 12, 2019

On Tuesday, November 12th our high school students hosted an open house for their families and friends. When the idea was presented, there was much anticipation for the night - many of the students were very enthusiastic about getting involved. Each student chose to be a part of a specific committee: Food, Welcome or Decorations. The students committed to planning and volunteering in their areas on the night of the open house.

The Food committee prepared barbecued hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and salad. During the dinner portion, the Food committee joyfully served plates to each table. The Welcome committee was also very cheerful as they greeted family and friends. They were assigned to make sure guests felt welcome as soon as they entered the space. The Decorations committee did a great job with tidying up the space and placing festive decorations on the dinner tables. One of the students even went above and beyond by helping staff members create an ice breaker question. This helped the group begin talking and warming up to each other. Students showed initiative and took ownership of their responsibilities and did a fantastic job serving their friends and families.

During the open house program, three high school seniors were presented with memory boxes. The boxes were hand crafted by Tom Lammert, a friend of Wesley Chapel Mission Center. The boxes are presented in the fall so that the students can collect memories throughout senior year.

At the end of the evening, students spent time bonding by playing games with one another. Staff members were also able to personally introduce themselves to family members and discuss the progress of the students.

Overall, it was a great night and a true display of team work, fun and family. We look forward to continuing the school year with the students while getting to know families even more!

~Brittany Rogers, High School Program Coordinator

Children's Program Academic Enrichment

Jan. 10, 2018

This year the Children’s Program did an academic enrichment for twenty minutes each day Monday through Thursday. The Monday activity for our 2nd and 3rd graders through the year was ''scripture searching.'' In this activity the children learned the difference between verse and chapter numbers, where you can find the table of contents, how to find a verse in the Bible, and some bible basics, such as, the fact that there are are two Testaments, Old and New. This is an exciting activity because the children work on their reading skills and they get to encounter God through God's Word. At the end of the year, we celebrated all that the children had learned about hhe Bible and the children got to take home their own copy of God’s Word. This activity highlights a few aspects of our mission at Wesley Chapel Mission Center – We minister to our Over-the-Rhine children and families by demonstrating God’s unconditional love, nurturing personal relationships with Jesus Christ, providing educational programs, guiding social and moral development, and collaborating within the community.

Police Sergeant Visits the Builders Club!

July 31, 2017

The 4th-8th graders welcomed Sergeant Elena Moton, from the District 1 Criminal Investigation Section of Personal Crimes, to their January Builders Club meeting! The Builders Club is a middle school service club sponsored by the Cincinnati Kiwanis Club.

Sergeant Moton spoke with the youth, sharing her background and experiences as a police officer. The youth were very interested and attentive, and they asked many thoughtful questions!

They thanked Sergeant Moton for coming and gave her several dozen bags of homemade chex mix and "thank you" cards to take back to the District 1 Office. The youth had made the snacks and cards at their previous meeting as a service project to thank the police officers who patrol each day in the neighborhood around Wesley Chapel Mission Center.

Junior Staff Attend Job Training

Jul. 13, 2017

The junior staff met in January for a day of job training and team-building. Miss Casey lead worship and training. The staff then prepared a yummy pasta (both alfredo and marinara!), salad, cheese bread and homemade brownie lunch in Miss Becky's wonderful kitchen.

Our Junior Staff Program gives the students the opportunity to apply and interview for a position as a paid Junior Staff member, assisting the adult staff in the K-3 KLASS classrooms. They open checking accounts and learn how to manage their money.

The youth must maintain their grades, have good attendance at both school and WCMC, and fulfill their job responsibilities to stay in the program.

There are currently nine students who work two days per week and learn important life skills as part of this program!

A New Building and Class Restructure Support Growing Numbers

May 19, 2017

The number of students attending our KLASS (Keep Learning After School Stops) and High School after school programs continues to grow! To ensure that the students have the space and dedicated staff to meet the needs of each age group, we have added a new building location for the High School program and made changes to the structure of the K-8 programming. It is an exciting time at Wesley Chapel Mission Center!

The High School students now meet in a newly-rented building on Main Street at the East end of McMiken. The High School activities include homework help, career development, budget planning and leadership skills. High School students are also given the opportunity to apply and interview for a position as a Junior Staff member, assisting the adult staff in the K-3 KLASS classrooms.

The 4-8th Grade students meet in the youth building at the corner of McMiken and Vine. The Youth Coordinator, Tiffany Barr, plans activities for the entire group as well as for 4-6 grade and 7-8 grade groups that split for Bible study and enrichment activities which are led by adult staff members.

The students in Kindergarten through Grade 3 meet in the original classroom building, and are led by the Children’s Coordinator, Regime Willis. They have a gathering space where they come together for Bible Study, music and special programming. Grades K/1 and 1/2 have their own classroom where they meet for homework help and other age-appropriate programming under the guidance of adult and Junior Staff members.

Four of our High School students attended the Spring Key Leader Weekend, sponsored by Kiwanis International.  Congratulations to Harry Ballard, Dwayne Calloway, Jaevon Allen and Giovanni Wright for securing scholarships from the Cincinnati Kiwanis Club to attend this exciting weekend!

Harry and Dwayne attended for the second time, and were selected by the Key Leader organization to serve as student facilitators, leading discussion groups of students from around the state about leadership skills and issues.  This was a very big honor!

Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership program for today's young leaders. This life-changing event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership-development experience. A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leadership—it comes from helping others succeed.  The youth attend group workshops, discussions and team-building activities take place over the course of the weekend. Students have opportunities to learn leadership skills that will help them to change their schools, communities, and world for the better.   They also make amazing new friends and have experiences they will never forget.

Since April 2005 Key Leader has served more than 26,000 students at 553 Key Leader events in 40 U.S. states, 7 Canadian provinces, Malaysia, Brazil, Cayman Islands, El Salvador and Singapore. Click here To learn more about Key Leader.
